Looking into a Mirror

Week one, May 24, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
Looking into a mirror,
Look past the surface, look through the obvious, what do you see?
Metaphor; mirror as metaphor. Look into a mirror, look into my eyes, look into my soul. Art as mirror, look into my art, look through my eyes, look into my soul.

A Handle on Evolution

The Road To...

Week three, June , 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",

Unicorn's Fancy

Week five, June 23, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
Sometimes the mind grasps hard onto an image, an idea, like a dog with a bone the mind does not always know when to let go. My original idea for this collage was a good one, but it would not complete itself. Sometimes the bravest act of creativity is simply letting go.

Times Target

Week nine, July 21, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
Ah, i've been in a very unsettled state of mind lately. I find that all the imagery i'm dealing with has a melancholy tinge with a generous topping of surrealism.

I was Afraid

Week ten, July 29, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
I was born in the early fifties, and grew up in the sixties. I remember the Cold War, The Cuban Missile Crisis. I went to a Catholic grade school. We got a weekly reader, "The Treasure Chest", inside of which was an ongoing story about a good nuclear family. The children were encouraged to turn their parents in, if they suspected them of Communist leanings. No wonder i had re-occurring dreams, the most potent of them was of bombs falling and my father standing in the middle of the yard, calling me into the house where it would be safe. I was afraid.

Ancestor Shrine for Zippy

Week eleven, August 3, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
My husband, unwittingly gave me the inspiration for this one when he made a comment about people enjoying my work, but not "getting it". Good old Zippy.

Travel with the Perfect Girl

Week twelve, August 11, 2008
original 8 1/2 x 11",
A conversation with my mother, about traveling across country with my youngest sister and her children planted the seed for this collage. Wow! I'm a quarter of the way through this project.
